BOOK Review: The Break-Up Artist by Philip Siegel

This one was an easy read. I wanted something light and humorous, and that's exactly what I got.

However, if you prefer books with deep meaning and logical plot, then pass by, this book is absolute nonsense most of the time.

I mean...look at the name, whaaaat.

I really liked the whole idea. The whole "I am gonna finally read a book that isn't about undying love and sloppy kisses everywhere". But oh my, how much I hated the whole fictional world of it in the end.

What I disliked and why:

1. Becca, a teenage girl, the actual break-up artist, claims to be all "no love = no problems", yet all she does and talks and thinks, is somehow revolving around love, relationships, couples, and etc. Later on, she manages to fall for her bestfriend's boyfriend (yeah, screw the girl code). Also is a little obsessed with her ex best friend. Prepare to hear her rumblings about "I hate her, she stopped talking to me one day, and I still can't get over it". And I don't think the fact that your friend spends her time with her boyfriend can be a reason to start splitting all the couples in your school up. 

2. Becca's sister. Another hater of everything couple-ish, because a year ago she was dumped by her fiancee. Her moody ways will annoy you so much, that you may mentally scream "Shut up" every time she talks.

3. Female characters in general, so thirsty, so bitchy, so typical. Apparently author thinks that all women talk about is shopping and men and gossips about other women.

No other topics? Seriously? Not even homework? Movies? Favorite books?

It's fucking high school, some of us, actually most of us, don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend, and WE ARE OKAY ABOUT IT.

4. Male characters. No gentlemen here, no cute boys, no NORMAL boys. Nada.

5. Friendships. The whole "I got a boyfriend, so I don't need my best friend now, because my time and my attention fully belongs to my lover"

6. Gossips. I, personally, never gossip, and if someone tries to involve me in a conversation that consists of gossips and dirty rumours, I refuse to join. So the fact, that this book was full of gossips and stupidity, it annoyed me big time.

I was supposed to rate this book...um... 2/10.

BOOK Review: The Broken Destiny by Carlyle Labuschagne

Greetings, internet! I am finally back, with (of course, what else a nerd like me would do with her free time, other than read) a new book review for all of you lovely booklovers.
So where to start...
When I first saw it (I read this one in epub version), I fell in love with the cover. It's like a shiny neon casino sign, alluring you to get inside. And yes, it fooled me. When I checked the annotation, it had me a bit confused, BUT sometimes great books have such badly written annotations and prologues, so I will be honest, I almost always skip those and get straight to the point aka first chapter.
And what did I see?
I felt like I went down the rabbit hole and the story didn't even start properly yet. I swear, some parts I reread 3 times or so to get any kind of proper introduction but the information was so not enough, ugh. Also it felt like I just awakened after 20 years coma and the world around changed alot BUT AUTHOR IS NOT WILLING TO GIVE ANY IMPORTANT DETAILS. Are you serious? I can't read your mind and find out what I need to make my first impression puzzle complete.

Next, the main character, Ava, who obviously lives on another planet, called Poseidon (why even Poseidon?), at first appears to be just a teenage girl, who suffers from rough past/memories haunting her, with best friend always at her side. And these two were so intimately close, that I truly believed Ava was lesbian. And you know, I would be more satisfied if she really was, at least it would make more sense, since the scenes and dialogues Ava and her friend share are much more romantic than the ones she ever had with her crushes (little spoiler, sorry).
Also, oh my God, the conversations. Is there a "Noone is allowed to spell more than 20 words in one reply" law on Poseidon? Because all of the conversations are short. Super. Short. And that's pretty bad, because I, personally, love funny banters or monologues or dialogues between characters, these kind of interactions describe them better than anything.
And yeah, seen no humour there either. Sad.
Another thing, was whole Ava's personality. According to this book, here are three most important things I found out about her:
1. She is some kind of a special soul aka broken, and she is the greatest weapon ever created. Baiscally like a superwoman not knowing how to activate or control her power when needed. And she gives absolutely no shit about it. Really. She doesn't care.
2. She was once raped and then there are some scenes where she is almost (or not, I didn't quite understand) raped again. Very specific topic, I must say, and not everyone can write a character with such past well...I mean, realistic enough.
3. Surprisingly, Ava, having so much potential and power and her rough past, doesn't do anything. She only FAINTS or FALLS ASLEEP, in the end of almost EVERY CHAPTER.
...can you not...
This is the first character I absolutely despised. Not even she is weak and whiny, but also so dumb and selfish, that I would rather let her die.
Alright, she doesn't accept she is the choosen one, but can she, at least, for once get angry, unleash her super power, learn to control it and do something for people, who try so hard to make her life comfortable?
Speaking of story whole (I am trying to make this review short, but irritated), it gave me headache. I read a chapter, then went back, then forward again....leaved it for days to clear my head...and how happy I was when I finally finished this mental torture.
You are probably wondering why I did not give on it and delete...
The reason is that the author of these book series is talented. I can see that through pages of this nonsense, little sparks here and there like treasures, hidden in these chapters, but they are so rare, so tiny, that I give up on searching for them. Whoever wrote this, I honestly think, they wasted their talent and time creating this story, and they can do much MUCH better than this.

As for rating, I give it only 3/10.

BOOK Review: The Espressologist by Kristina Springer

Do you ever feel like you are tired of these never ending apocalyptic love stories, full of super powers and unexistent creatures, with dramatic cliff hangers and emotional rollercoaster going till the final chapter? I do.
Sometimes, I want to read something, that is more "down to earth", especially when going through writer's block or simply being in a bad mood.
One day, when I was feeling like that, I came across this book. It was probably about 5 or even more months ago, but the positive feeling it gave me is still there. I will probably end up rereading it again sometimes soon, just to get some inspiration.
This story is a pure light. It's one of these rare plots that contain no real sadness, something you smile at, from the page one till the very end. I don't want to describe more, because anything I want to say, can be a great spoiler and I want you to open this book without knowing what to expect. Just know that it's deliciously good in my opinion and you will most likely end being a coffee fan after reading it.

BOOK Review: Beware of Bad Boy by April Brookshire

Finished reading this one yesterday night, only to find out that it's the first book out of three in the Beware of Bad Boy series...
I try not to involve myself with book series... because, okay, I am impatient. If I read a story, I WANT to know how it ends and, I can't last waiting years for it.
Angry bookworm mode.
That aside, lets talk about this book now. I found it quite readable, though the humor (yes, I like characters, that have a good sense of humor) wasn't one for my liking. It was also a bit disturbing trying to follow the main plot through all these teasing and nearly sexual scenes (they are like in every chapter), but I got to the finale and no, I don't regret reading this book.
Except...I don't want to read what happens next either. This could be transformed into a beautiful ya romance book, with keeping these three dots in the end as "they ran away and lived happily ever after". It could all fit into one single book and be amazing to read. BUT NO, lets make it 3! *still on angry bookworm mode*
As for the characters, I felt like all attention was given to the main couple and the rest are just...you know, like a furniture. Poorly written, some even pointless (in my opinion), some I know absolutely nothing about, still.

The finale (as the most of this book) was so predictable, that...cliche much. All summed, I would give this one 5/10.

BOOK Review: "We were liars" by E. Lockhart

So here the book I recently finished reading (click on the pic to see what the hype is about). It is not so long, and I think I finished it in about 2 hours (fast reader much, eh?) and what can I say... I felt absolutely nothing /in the end/.
I mean, it's quite fine, really and you should probably read it if you are:

1) a fan of YA books with sad ends and unexpected plot twists;

2) a fan of Pretty Little Liars series, because somehow the main heroine and her family reminded me of Spencer Hastings and her lovely relatives.
Maybe it's just me, but let me know if you also found similarities between these?

3) you are tired of supernatural fictions and you just want to try out something more...normal and summerish.

To be honest, while I was reading this story, I felt like it was playing on my nerves. Balancing on the edge between "this story is amazing" and "this dumb thing annoys me and why am I even reading this". And as a result, all positive and negative points had faded into one - nothing.

I am not quite a "whatever" type of a person when it comes to the books I check out, 95% of time I am able to form a positive or negative opinion after reading a story, but this one... This one is something. So despite my mood, you should check this one out, as it's certainly not just an ordinary story of a teenager's screws ups.

I also seen people grumbling about weird narrator style of this book, but it did not bother me at all, though to each their own.

So, summing it all up, if I were to rate this one, for a nice plot and an attempt to bring me to tears with shocking finale chapters (minus poorly written characters, which did not gain my sympathy much) - 6/10.
