To be honest, this post was inspired by a funny conversation me and my friend (both huge nerds) had not so long ago and that's why I decided to voice my opinion on YA (young adult) books in such way.
Please note, I am a proud book lover and even though some of these things I am going to list bellow, may make me look like a "hater", I do still love reading these and this post is mostly for fun and laughs.
So here is 10 things you can find in every YA book.
1. Awkward heroine with some weird name (majority of leading characters are females, so yeah). Why awkward? Hmm. Maybe because our typical YA book heroine is always thinking of herself as either "too shy / never admits she is hot, though she knows she is" (..what?) or "so freaking ordinary and boring that nobody notices her". She never uses makeup until her best friend decides to force her into some style change.
2. No parents. I don't know if this is some trick many authors are using to write more of other scenes or whatnot, but usually our awkward heroine has either one parent or both, who don't tend to pay much attention to what their kids are up to.....or something happens and poor parents die (usually in the beginning of the story).
3. SUPER-DUPER SEXY guy, who makes all the panties in the town drop (including our awkward heroine and her best friend, though best friend always steps away and finds herself a boyfriend like...ASAP). Usually a hot newbie in high school or almost coronated high school prom king, looks all badass and tough, but in the end of the story love turns him into a melted icecream, because OF COURSE he (ignoring the rest of woman population) falls for our oh-so-ordinary, not-pretty-but-looking-fine girl. Duh.
4.Intense love and flirting. All these "can't look at him, heart beating so fast", "I love you so so much that it hurts", "I feel sparks through my skin every time we touch" and etc. Maybe it's just me...or maybe it's too much.
5. YOU DA CHOSEN ONE. Now this mostly applies for fantasy/supernatural or utopian YA books, where main character usually ends up chosen as whole world's savior and they never know about it until one day when they randomly discover that "magic" exists.
orrrr.....
or 6. When the super-duper sexy guy, the girl falls for, is a part of supernatural world and yes, you guessed it right - these two can't be together. (They will though, cause love beats all, ya know.)
7. The love triangle. Every-freakin-where. (Thumbs up for writers, which don't use that plot add in their books)
8. Antagonist characters being all like "I am so evil with no reason" or "I am not really evil, just idk, hanging there and doing bad stuff".
9. All about sex. I remember I've came across one teen drama book, which basically had an interesting plot but main heroine thinking about having sex with her crush/boyfriend or trying to do so in almost every chapter, had me thinking to quit reading that story. Seriously, teens are NOT that horny.
10. Some sort of school dances or an upcoming prom night. I think this needs no explanation, and appears in every other YA story.
So that's it, I hope this made you smile and feel free to comment if you came up with anything that could be added to this list:)
